On Saturday, October 21 at the Section 1 Coaches Invitational at Westchester Community College, the boys and girls teams competed in the varsity and JV races among 65 teams. The race was a preview of the end of year Section 1 meet at WCC though the team competed against much bigger teams in races with teams randomly assigned to three slots.
Byram Hills was the top boys team with a merged races result of 97 points. Max Kasak of Byram Hills finished first in 16:36.91. Shelby Greany of Suffern dominated the girls race in 18:26.65, and Carmel was the top team in the merged field with 123 points, slightly ahead of Arlington at 131.
The varsity teams met expectations and many of the Eagles set personal 5K bests on a course that runs fairly slow. The girls finished 10th in the Varsity I race among 14 qualifying and 20 total teams with an average time of 23:38.33. Overall, the girls were 26th of 38 qualifying and 61 total teams in the merged results from the three races, and 6th among the class C teams.
Paulina Nunez led the team with a 16th place race finish and 40th overall among 299 runners. Supporting her top time of 20:59.27, were Lauren Hanley (42, 131) 22:52.89, Sarah Coburn (58, 174) 23:51.39, Sarah King (59, 176) 23:53.36, Anna Quintero (83, 246) 26:34.71, and Mizuki Yamamoto (88, 269) 27:28:44. Paulina's strong race hiked her NYS Class C ranking to around 37 with a speed rating of 100.
The boys finished 10th in the Varsity III race among 17 qualifying and 19 total teams with an average time of 19:47.69. Overall, the boys were 31st of 55 qualifying and 65 total teams in the merged results from the three races, and 4th among the class C teams behind Pawling, Edgemont, and Bronxville.
David King was the top finisher at 18:59.25 for Dobbs, good for 34th place in the race and 110th overall among 388 runners. Following him were Viktor Mashalov (43, 131) 19:14.39, Pat Newman (69, ca. 218) 20:06.42, Patrick Wortner (73, ca. 231) 20:12.65, Yoshi Miura (78, ca. 244) 20:25.74, Matt Coburn (88, ca. 268) 20:49.53, and Alex Radocea (107, ca. 340) 22:25.41.
The JV boys competed against around 36 total teams and finished 21st with an average time of 22:15:80. Leading the way for the guys was Brendan Wortner (97) 21:03.98, followed by Taka Masuda (120) 21:32:.34, Jake Lane (157) 22:19.68, Ray Vincent (158) 22:22.30, George Epstein (226) 24:00.06, and Jamie Latainer (251) 24:42.56.
