On Thursday, October 26, at the Westchester County Championship at Van Cortlandt Park, the boys and girls teams competed in the varsity and JV races among 38 teams. Due to timing abnormalities and general screwups by meet officials, the boys varsity times and placements are incorrect, but at least they appear to have gotten the other three races right. Generally, Dobbs ran well and many personal bests were set at the runners' 5th and last race at VCP this season.
Byram Hills was again the top boys team, beating out 2nd place Iona Prep by 47-97. Max Kasak of Byram Hills finished 6 seconds in front of Scarsdale's Julian Sheinbaum in 12:51.59. Kaylin Gilmartin-Donohue of White Plains passed Bronxville's Tori Flannery near the finish to win the girls race in 15:06.64. Bronxville was the lead team, beating Horace Greeley 50-68.
The varsity teams finished a little better than expected, with team averages improving (assuming times had been correctly kept) from the League Meet. The girls finished 12th in the Varsity race among 25 qualifying and 34 total teams with an average time of 17:53.17, a jump of about 11 seconds for the late blooming team. The girls were 3rd among the class C teams behind Bronxville and Edgemont as they head to Friday's Sectionals.
Paulina Nunez led the team with a 30th place race finish among 183 runners, lowering her League Meet time by 4 seconds to 16:30.53. Following her were Lauren Hanley (51) with a career best 17:08.53, Sarah Coburn (81) with PB 18:15:47, Sarah King (86) with PB 18.21.99, Sofia Maluf (116) lowering PB by 1:39 to 19:09.30, and Anna Preddy (117) 19:09.53.
The girls JV were one runner short of qualifying for a team score, but times plummeted sharply from the League Meet. Leading the team was Mizuki Yamamoto (35) dropping 35 seconds to 20:45.97, Anna Quintero (36) slicing off a whopping 2:56 to get 20:49:53, Shanna Yue (52) lopping 1:16 to finish at 23:25, and Katie Luckett (53) shed 1:36 to record 23.27.11.
Again because of the Varsity boys timing fiasco, everything can only be guessed at (adding maybe 5 seconds to Coach K's recorded times), though the top three times are probably correct. The boys varsity finished probably 16th out of 32 qualifying and 38 total teams with an average time of probably about 15:21, an improvement of around 3 seconds. The boys were probably 3rd behind Edgemont and Bronxville among the class C teams.
David King was tops for Dobbs in 79th at probably 14:47.62. Following him were Pat Newman (92) with a PB 15:10.39, Viktor Mashalov (93) with a PB 15:11.60, Patrick Wortner (no clue about place) maybe around 15:43, Yoshi Miura (NCAP) maybe 15:54, Matt Coburn (NCAP) maybe 16:25, and Alex Wilde (NCAP) maybe 17:01.
The JV boys competed against around 18 qualifying and 22 total teams and finished 15th with an average time of 16:59.97. Leading the way for the guys was Taka Masuda (73) chopping 40 seconds for a PB 16:33:86, Ray Vincent (75) dropping 39 seconds for a 16:35.52, Brendan Wortner (77) peeling away 54 seconds for 16:37.14, Alex Radocea (102) dropping 41 seconds to 17:19:10, Yu Lin (128) eliminating 24 seconds to 17:54.22, Joey Byrne (134) with a PB 18:03.84, Jake Lane (139) with a PB 18:11.63, George Epstein (156) dropping 38 seconds to 18:53.58, Jamie Latainer (172) 20:01.57, and Jesse Bentert (188) 21:15.97.
