On Friday, November 3 at the Section 1 Championships 5K races at Westchester Community College, the story of the day was senior captain Paulina Nunez. Spurred on by a fierce determination to make it to the top, Nunez charged through final half of the race passing most of Class C's elite runners to finish in 5th. Her great placement earned her a trip on Saturday the 10th to Warwick Valley and a spot on the Section 1 team in the Class C race. She will represent Section 1 with the runners from the champion Bronxville team and the top runner from the Croton-Harmon, Edgemont, Pleasantville, and Albertus Magnus teams.
The girls team finished as expected in 6th place on a crisp, sunny day running among 57 runners and nine teams in the Class C race. Strong placements from the 7th grade pack helped the team edge Pleasantville by 6 points for the 6th spot. The order of finish behind Nunez (20.28.59) was freshman Lauren Hanley(22:38.20) who finished 25th, 7th graders Sarah Coburn (23:21.71) in 30th, Sarah King (23:23.17) in 31st, and Sofia Maluf (24:12.90) in 39th, senior Anna Preddy (24:13.91) in 40th, and 8th grader Anna Quintero (26:14.60) in 53rd.
The boys team packed in enough runners to finish as expected in the fourth spot behind champion Pawling, and the Edgemont and Bronxville teams. Junior David King (19:10.99) led the Eagles with a 21st place finish, closely followed by sophomore Viktor Mashalov (19.15.25) in 23rd place, sophomore Patrick Newman (19.19.78) in 25th place, freshman Patrick Wortner (19:41.64) in 31st, and sophomore Matt Coburn (20.10.19) in the Eagles' fifth spot in 36th. Seniors Yoshi Miura (20:37.94) in 43rd and Alex Wilde (21:20.77) in 55th also placed for Dobbs Ferry.
Great way for the team to finish its season as Paulina goes on for a big kick at the States.
