Boys Team Progress Summary for First Half of Season

First Half Summary and Team Power Ratings

Three weeks into the 2007 season, the guys have pushed through three major invitationals on their way to an 11th place rating among the New York State C teams. A major accomplishment that was achieved through a steady diet of high profile races and strong placements, the question now is whether the Eagles can keep the momentum and progress going through to the Sectionals. There are about twelve non-Pawling runners battling for the 5 at-large places on the Section 1-C team and a trip to an elementary school near Canada. And though Pawling still appears to be the frontrunner for the Class C title, the gap has narrowed enough so that another injury to top state runner Colby Delbene could open the way for Dobbs, Bronxville, or Irvington to grab the title.

After a 3rd-place Div. 2 finish at the Somers Big Red, a 19th place finish among all teams at Bowdoin (tops among small schools), and a 14th place finish at the Warwick Big Purple Wave Mania (again, tops among small schools), the boys have built a reputation as a tough small team that puts itself on the line at the prestige meets. Their 11th place state ranking ahead of Bronxville and Irvington is not so much a statement that the Eagles are better than the Broncos and Bulldogs but simply that they run well in better places.

Tallying up the Tully Runners-based Speed Ratings for the 1-C teams (interpreting as necessary for runners not included in database), the results confirm that a battle among the top 2-4 teams is almost dead even with Pawling holding onto a moderate lead. As of the most recent update, Patrick Wortner has been upgraded to a 160 average rating, David King and Viktor Mashalov are within 1 or 2 points of being officially state ranked, and Brendan Wortner is about 5 points (15 seconds) shy. If the Dobbs top 5 can continue to chop 5-10 seconds off their relative times each week, the Eagles should be in good shape for at least a 2nd place finish in the Sectional and a League title.
