Dobbs Ferry Track Poised to Begin 2008 Outdoor Season
The Eagles Outdoor Track team is set to follow up a promising initial Indoor Track season with a meet on Tuesday, April 8 that should keep the momentum rolling. Following a 2007 season that saw the girls finish their regular campaign with 9 wins and 1 somewhat disputed loss and the boys finish with a strong 7-3 record, the Eagles are looking to enhance their standing by being competitive in a few events that were generally voids for them last year. The return of sectional champions Sophia Veiras and Lisa Tessitore will give the girls team a boost while the boys look to offset the loss of top point man Kadeem Scott with a wide range of running, jumping, and throwing performances that were showcased during the indoor season.
At this point most of the expectations for the coming season are an unknown, but starting the year at North Salem is a good test though a long drive. The Eagles and the Tigers only met at the Sectionals last year, and they have graduated a number of their outstanding middle distance runners like Jon Knowlton from 2007. The North Salem meet should be a good preview into the Eagles' strengths and "needs some help" areas. With nice temperatures and fairly sunny sky expected for Tuesday, hopefully the meet will not need to imitate the chilly run-in-the-dark aspects of the later races at last year's Croton Harmon opener.
