Mod Squad Races to Big Job in Opener
The Dobbs Ferry Modified Track team got its season going at Edgemont on Thursday, April 10, with a bunch of impressive performances. In the first of potentially around 6 meets for 2008, the young Eagles motored well against the competition, principally Edgemont and Pleasantville.
With no official results to report, viewing photos that naturally get posted out of order by the website's functionally challenged photo loader, and using a roster that looks a bit underrepresented, a few efforts in particular can still be noted. Starting with the girls, I'm guessing from recorded images that Megan Moynihan got top places in the sprint races and maybe won the 100 meter dash. Suzanna Halatyn charged home to win the 400. Mary Constant raced away to win the 800 and appeared to take 2nd in the 400. In the 1500, Shanna Yue had a breakout performance to take 2nd behind Edgemont's star miler. Finally, the 4x100 relay team won a close one as Liz Quintero held off a fast-closing Edgemont runner.
On the somewhat undermanned boys side Connor Culhane raised eyebrows with a tremendous 1600 run win and also anchored the relay team shortly after. Louis Debellis took around third in the 400 and also zipped on the relay team.
Among the other Eagles putting their best foot forward were Rebecca Wiersma who grabbed a 4th in the 1500 behind Liz Quintero's 3rd; Maddie Wright, Ankeeta Shah, Rebecca Lowy, Jessica Silverman, and Yun Sun Roh pumped in the sprints to long distance races; and James Constant, Marty Ascher and William Newman did yeoman's work in a variety of races.
Missed a few names but the season is long and hopefully I'll be catching up with the group again down the road.
