The team rankings and Tully Speed Ratings are beginning to trickle out as the New York XC season gets underway. The news is:

Team Rankings

The only state rankings for the boys so far is for the state top 25 teams list, which is dominated by the big schools. Dobbs should be listed in the top 5 for Class C when the team rankings appear next week. On the girls' side, Bronxville is rated #10 overall in the state and is tops among the state Class C teams. Pawling is ranked 6th, Irvington 10th, and Hastings earns a surprise 15th after an impressive showing at the Randolph Invite.

The Section 1 rankings have finally appeared and the Dobbs boys have copped the top spot in Class C, ahead of Bronxville, Pawling, and a surpringly low #4 Irvington (talk about ticking off a team!). Dobbs' #6 ranking among all Section 1 teams is just stunning. The only non-AA Class team ahead of the Eagles is A-Class Brewster, who Dobbs bested by an average time of 18:02 to 18:09 at the Big Red. The Eagle girls get a nice ranking of #5 among the 1-C teams. Wow, just wow.

Speed Ratings

Pat Wortner blazed to a personal best 169 rating off of the Big Red, which puts him 11 points ahead of the nearest 1-C runner and at 8th in NY Class C. Other Eagles with official ratings are Brendan Wortner at 149, Evan Fallor at 143, Pat Newman at 133, and unofficially 131 for Ryan Malpass.

Other SRs for 1-C runners included Julian Saliani with 158 from the Regis, the only rated Bulldog since Ian Matthews did not run. Marco Sammon of Croton Harmon earned a 153 at the Jim Smith meet at Sunken Meadows, Broncos Dayton Flannery, Christian Yoo, and Jack Hutton earned 147, 144, and 142 at the Regis on a fast VCP course, and Pawlings' Tim Yu and Pat Callan got 144 and 139 at the Big Red. Tops among Section 1 runners was Pearl Rivers' Mike Hickey with a blistering 189 at the Randolph taht ties him as best in state with Marcellus's Chris Stogsdill and Fayetteville-Manlius's Alex Hatz .

For the girls, Sarah King jumped about 20-25 points from 2007 with an 89, a score that puts her 8th among 1-C girls and 4th among non-Broncos, and at 30th among NY Class C runners. Izzy Natale's time would give an SR of around 56 and Rebecca Wiersma would be in at around 50.

Other 1-C girls include the Bronxville team which had a good showing to top the Randolph meet teams though the order was not quite as expected. Their SRs were Caitlin Hudson 115, Henrietta Miers 107, Tori Flannery 96, Amelia Phillips 89, Olivia Bruton 80, and Katherine Marrone 72. Hastings' good performance in the same race earned them ratings of Nora Howe 87, Emma Sander 80, and Emily Polstein 74. Irvington's Annie Field got a great 3rd at the Villa Bears meet and earned a 108 while teammates Megan Talay and Christine Paparo both got 70. Croton Harmon's Sarah Costa got a 64 at the Jim Smith meet. Also at the Big Red, Pleasantville's Libby Lazare scored a 106, and Pawlings' Caitlin and Anna Jelinek and Zoe Nagasing earned 91. 88, and 75. The top performance by a Section 1 runner was of course Suffern's Shelby Greany with a 141 at Sunken Meadows, whose score is also the best in the state.
