Week 3 Rankings and Speed Ratings

Posted Tuesday, September 30, 2008 by Perry King
The Eagles took a big flight upward in Week 3, as the New York State team rankings finally placed the boys' varsity at #4 on the Class C list with a complimentary note and a bit of an apology for having overlooked Dobbs last week. All is right in the world. Section 1 rankings to come, but the order will probably be close to last week with Dobbs dropping one place among all sectional teams as Scarsdale enters the list high up.

Team Rankings

The boys are slotted #4 in the New York State Class C rankings behind the powerful Newark Valley team and Canastota and Jordan Elbridge. Dobbs actually has a little better team average Speed Rating (TASR) than Jordan Elbridge, but there's not much difference. Pawling joined the rankings at #9, while Irvington and Bronville dropped out, the comment being that the Bulldogs need to find a pack behind their top 2. Dobbs has put some distance between itself and the 1-C competition in terms of TASR, with the Eagles at 152.2, Irvington at 142.2, Pawling at 142.0, and Bronxville at 133.0.

Speed Ratings

The boys got a big kick from a fast Warwick course. With the good times, the season's SRs for the guys is: Pat Wortner 170, Brendan Wortner 160, Evan Fallor 144, Viktor Mashalov 144, and Pat Newman 143. George Epstein was credited with a 128 SR for Warwick.

Elsewhere in 1-C, Irvington did not get to run so their SRs remain the same. Broncos Dayton Flannery and Jack Hutton continued to climb from their performance at the DeWitt Clinton meet at of course VCP and they now have season SRs at 156 and 150, while Christian Yoo is at 144. Pawling did quite well out at the McQuaid Invite in Rochester and now has SRs of Tim Yu at 151, and newcomers Matt Jorgensen (Sammi's 8th grade brother, I presume) at 143 and Chris Carey at 140. Croton Harmon's Marco Sammon was with us at Warwick and his SR is at 156.

For the girls, Sarah King ran 4th in the unrated frosh race at Warwick and holds at 88. Izzy Natale went up to a 62, Rebecca Wiersma to a 57, Chloe Wang got a 45 and Clara Winder a 44.

On  the 1-C girls side, Bronxville kind of packed together at the DeWitt Clinton, and most of the runners' SRs went up as the Broncos continue their hold on the State Class C top position. Caitlin Hudson is now at 114, Henrietta Miers at 105, Tori Flannery began a big climb that has her at 101, Amelia Phillips at 99, Meredith Rizzo at 95, and Charlotte Cooley at 88. The Yellowjackets did well at Warwick and Nora Howe is now at 85 and Emma Sander is at 82, while Croton Harmon's Sarah Costa moved up to 86. Pawling showed well at the McQuaid with Caitlin Jelinek having a huge rebound to jump to 104 while sister Anna rose to 94. Pleasantville's Libby Lazare won at the Gressler Invite in White Plains and stays at 106. Irvington's Annie Field did not run.
