Eagles Race Headless Horsemen on Ides of September
The Eagles will travel to Sleepy Hollow on Tuesday, September 15, to run against the Horsemen in a race that is scheduled for 4:15. Directions are apparently to take Broadway, Rte 9 up to Phelps Hospital at the 117 intersection and park around there. Two references on the the Sleepy Hollow XC page refer to the customary course being at the Rockwood Hall park north of the hospital along the Hudson River, which sounds about right.
Class B Sleepy Hollow is not known as a cross country power but they do have Katherine Doyle on the girls side who placed an excellent 21st in the Westchester County race last fall, only 11 seconds behind the Eagles' Sarah King. She was Sleepy Hollow's sole competitor on the girls' team in both the County and Sectional meets, where she finished 15th, almost a minute ahead of Ardsley's Kate Montgomery. In general, the Horsemen are not deep.
Depth is also an issue for the Horsemen's boys, who graduated their top three runners from last year. Their top returning runner could be senior Alex Berger for a team that finished 11th in the Class B Sectional race.
Dobbs will be looking to get a better gauge of where their 4-5-6 runners are at, as Harry Wagner, Yusuf Kapadia, and James Majeau look to develop a second wind and Grant Sheely, Keith Hickey, Terry Taylor and Yu Lin get stronger. The girls will be trying to put together a solid showing with a few more runners now qualifying to run.
