Eagles Travel West for Warwick Wave Invitational
The Dobbs Ferry XC team will head over to Orange County to run at the Warwick Wave Invitational with about 33 other teams on Saturday morning, September 26. The meet's location is the Sandfordville Elementary School, down the road from the Warwick Valley High School. The course is set on fields with gentle hillocks, and times tend to be pretty fast for the 5K distance (1.5 miles for freshman). The weather is supposed to be ideal for XC.
Information from the Warwick Wave site is still very sketchy as of 3:00 on Friday, and no overall assignments are posted for public view for how the teams will be split between the two varsity races for the boys and the girls. The top 25 finishers in each race will get medals.
Early in the season only sketchy results are available for many teams and none for a few. On the boys side, the teams battling for the top results appear to be top-10 NYS teams North Rockland, Warwick Valley, and St. Anthony's, though the big NJ Catholic school Pope John XXIII is also supposed to be very good. Suffern also has some good runners. On the girls side one of the favorites will be North Shore, and North Rockland, Warwick Valley, and Pearl River will also be strong. Monroe-Woodbury's girls are not currently listed on the meet roster unlike the school's boys, but they could be the top team if they show up. Bronxville and Sullivan West are two of the top Class C teams.
Some of the top runners in the state will be at the meet, including Nick Hughes (North Rockland, Tully Rating - 183), Patrick Murphy (St Anthony's, TR -181) and Kenneth Walshak (St. Anthony's, TR - 181). Among the other runners with ratings over 170 are James Naglieri and Brett Bernard of North Rockland, Kevin McKenna and Tyler Frigge of Suffern, Dayton Flannery of Bronxville, and Thomas Flynn of St Anthony's. None of the Eagles have ratings as of yet.
The top runner on the girls side should be Samantha Nadel of North Shore, who along with her teammate Brianna Welch has no rating yet. If the Monroe Woodbury girls run, Elizabeth O'Donnel and Meghan Ventarola should be among the leaders. Other top runners include Henrietta Miers and Meredith Rizzo of Bronxville, Ursula Svoboda of Suffern, Lillian Griebesland and Siobhan O'Brien of Warwick Valley, Alexis Hatcher of North Rockland, and Chelsea Kushner and Kelli Van Houten of Pearl River.
