Eagles Head to Sleepy Hollow for League Meet
Dobbs Ferry cross country runners travel to Rockwell Hall in Sleepy Hollow for the League Meet on Tuesday, October 13, beginning at 4:15. Besides Dobbs and the host school, teams include Irvington, Hastings, Ardsley, Children's Village and perhaps others.
The meet will be in a beautiful setting, but it's hard to know how strongly the schools will be competing with the big push for development for the big postseason meets bginning. Irvington is the big favorite on the boys side. Dobbs cannot rely on a 1-2-3 finish for a 1 point victory, so its chances against Ardsley and Hastings are uncertain. Top runners include the Eagles Patrick Wortner, Brendan Wortner, George Epstein; Bulldogs Julian Saliani, Dennis Montaruli, and Sam Lindberg, the Panthers' Steve Sklar, and Yellowjacket Jared Scharf.
The girls match could feature a great showdown between Irvington and Hastings. The Yellowjackets have a clear advantage in the top four spots, but they may lose out if their 5th spot gets too high a score. Dobbs should place well ahead of Ardsley. The top runner on her home course should be Sleepy Hollow's Katherine Doyle, with the Bulldogs' Annie Field and the Eagles' Sarah King also in contention. The Yellowjackets' strong quartet of Nora Howe, Emma Sander, Emily Polstein, and Lauren Wilt should also finish high up.
The best way to get to the course is to take the Rockwell Hall exit to the right off of route 9 and loop around down toward the park and the river.
