Binghamton Bearcats Place 26th at NCAA Northeast Regionals
Paulina Nunez's Binghamton Bearcats team competed at Brown University on November 14th placing 26th of 35 teams at the NCAA Northeast Regionals. The Bearcats with 681 points placed in the middle of a pack of five teams that finished within 15 points of each other. Paulina was the 6th Bearcat across the line at 171st in 25:36 for the 6K course. Rachel Miura led the team with an 82nd place in 24:13.
The championship featured a relative Who's Who of local ex-HS runners and others from NY. First place Syracuse included former Carmel star Catherine Desarle in their #2 spot placing 4th overall and New Paltz runner Natalie Busby as their #5 in 22nd. Second place Providence has recently become a powerhouse with Suffern wonder Shelby Greany leading them with a 2nd place finish, Saratoga star Hannah Davidson 5th overall, Seton Catholic-Plattsburgh runner Mary Kate Champagne as the team's #5 runner, and Burnt Hills star Samantha Roecker as their #6. Other local faces in the results included Ursuline's Meghan Brown placing 45th for 6th place Cornell and Bronxville's Caitlin Hudson finishing 136th for Yale.
The men's Bearcat team finished 6th overall and had their first ever qualifier for the Nationals with Erik Van Ingen placing 7th on the 10K course.
The Bearcats now move on to Saturday's ECAC Championship Meet at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. Last year Binghamton finished a strong 4th of 23 teams in the 5K University Race, which was won by Columbia. The top group of teams compete in the Championship race, which last year was won by a Cornell team that included not only Meghan Brown but fellow Ursuline grad Katie Sullivan.
