Eagles Get Back into the Swing at RCC Meets
Dobbs traveled to the Rockland Community College Fieldhouse to participate in the Dendy Meet on Wednesday, January 6, with most of the team, and in the Rockland Coaches Meet on Friday, January 8th for Pat Wortner. Following a three-week hiatus that included the holiday break, the meets gave the team a chance to stretch some long dormant muscles and try their feet at some new events in preparation for the League meet on Sunday, January 10th. Along with shedding the rust, the Eagles picked up two silver and a bronze medal as a reward for their efforts
The Eagles' girls got rolling in the first event at the Dendy as Sofia Maluf strode to a third place in the 1500m Racewalk in a season's best 8:55.20. Although not all the results for the sprinters, middle-distance runners and jumpers were recorded, the results that were included for the girls showed a fair amount of promise. In the 400m, Mary Constant ran a 1:17.8 and Sofia Maluf ran a 1:18.2. Sarah King battled Sleepy Hollow's Katherine Doyle in the 3000m and finished 2nd in 11:16.9. Kim Anker got a good 12-4 leap in the long jump to finish 9th, and Sarah Koenigsberg and Krishna Pandya went to 10-.11.75 and 10-10.75.
On the boys side, the top finish was Brendan Wortner's 10:22.6 time in the 3200m to finish 2nd to Rye's Taylor Love. Other results included a quartet of Eagles competing in the 800m with George Epstein getting a 2:15.1 for 14th, Tommy Ruff running a 2:23.5, Mark Sudak doing a 2:29.3, and James Majeau finishing in 2:29.9. The Eagles' resident takedown artist Grant Sheely led the team in the 1600 with a 5:58.5, followed by James Majeau in 6:05.2, and Mark Sudak at 6:12.0. The final results included Ross Gabas with a 23-9 throw in the shot put and Nick Bacera adding a 22-6 heave.
The only recorded results for the Rockland Coaches meet on Friday was Pat Wortner's 7th place finish with a strong 10:03.4.
