Boys 4th and Girls 5th at League IIC Meet
Results have been sketchy all year for the Eagles as info about the meets has been hard to find. Looks like there will be no posting on the Armory site of the League Meet results that was held on May 5 at Irvington, so the following is based on the abridged version on Lohud.
Boys team scores: 1. Irvington 246, 2. Woodlands 108, 3. Hastings 70, 4. Dobbs Ferry 44, 5. Sleepy Hollow 23, 6. Ardsley 20.
Girls team scores: 1. Irvington 212, 2. Woodlands 129, 3. Sleepy Hollow 64, 4. Ardsley 20, 5. Dobbs Ferry 34, 6. Hastings 25.
The Eagles took one first place and also scored some score some second and third places. On the boys side, Devonte Brailsford led the way with 44-7 heave in the shot put to take the top place. Ramson Ragin bagged two 2nds in the long jump at 17-6.5 feet and with a triple jump at 38-1.5, and Brendan Wortner took 3rd in the 1600m with a 4:45.8. Update: the boys-only results have now been posted at the Armory under the 2009 cross country listings and oddly formatted, which is very interesting. So more results ...). Also, Idowu Wallace-Shortt ran 24.4 for 5th in the 200m, Connor Culhane nabbed 6th in the 800 with a 2:14.2, George Epstein got 5th in the 1600m with a PB 4:49, and Pat Wortner took 6th in 4:53. The only relay team to make it across the line was the 4x400 team with a 5th in 4:12.5
On the girls side, Sarah King took a 2nd in the 1500m and 3rd in the 400m hurdles, and Shanna Yue got a 3rd in the 800m. Other results and the times and distances are unavailable. (No updated results for girls on the Armory.)
At the Loucks Games at White Plains HS over the weekend, the Eagles were represented by Pat Wortner, who placed 19th in the 3200m in a sterling 9:49.67, and Brendan Wortner, who took 15th in 10:26.6 in the 3000m steeplechase. Both of the times were PBs and are a great sign going into the County Meet.
Speaking of which, the Westchester County Meet kicks off for the Eagles on Thursday as Brendan Wortner and Sarah King will be competing in steeplechase races. Brendan will be running his third steeplechase race and Sarah will be doing her first, both at apparently 2000m distance. On Saturday morning, May 15, the team members competing in the Counties will travel up to Hendrick Hudson HS in Montrose. The Eagles will compete against 30-40 other Westchester schools. Last year Pat Wortner scored a 4th in the 3200m to earn the Eagles' lone 4 points. This year only the Wortner duo rank in the top 6 in the county in their events.
