Eagles Prep for Sectionals with 4 More Medals at Westchester County Meet.
The DFXC team ventured up to Somers HS on Saturday, October 30 for the Westchester County Championship and were treated to another bunch of medals. Forr the second year in a row Dobbs got top-10 finishes on both the boys and girls sides. The boys finished 10th, the girls were one place back in 11th, and Sarah King, Brendan Wortner, George Epstein, and Brian Martin all picked up medals as the Eagles got ready for the big Section 1 State Qualifier Meet on Friday at Pawling.
The Bronxville Broncos won the girls varsity race by 109 points over 2nd place Lakeland\Panas and Mamaroneck's Gina Talt won the individual title by 5 seconds over the Broncos' Mary Cain. The Eagles' Sarah King got the 5th place medal, Shanna Yue was 54th, Joanne Mumbey was 75th, Rebecca Wiersma finished 100th, Sofia Maluf was 117th, Clara Winder 133rd, and Lila Walsh was 145th. Dobbs finished 11th with 337 points, two places better than last year.
The boys varsity race was won as expected by the host Somers team, and prerace favorite Victor Palumbo of Eastchester led the race almost from the beginning and beat runnerup Peter Gelston of White Plains by 15 seconds. The Eagles' Brendan Wortner took the 4th place medal, and George Epstein medalled in 16th place. The rest of the Eagle finishers included Connor Culhane in 73rd, Grant Sheely in 120th, Matt Latainer in 138th, Gabe Natale in 143rd, and James Majeau in 218th. The Eagles finished 1 point ahead of Rye for 10th with 341 points, improving 7 places from last year.
The girls JV ran third and had four runners on the line. Christine Whitty was the first Eagle in at 42nd. Emily Bohl was next at 50th, Sofia Checa was next at 58th, and Clara Horsfield finished up at 61st. The boys JV was the last Eagle race of the day, and Brian Martin ran to a 13th place to earn the 4th Eagle medal. Keith Hickey finished strong but was a little short of a medal in 29th place. Terry Taylor finished the Eagles' day with a 118th.
The Eagles varsity runners will now get set for the final team race of the year at Pawling on Friday in the Section 1 Championship state qualifier meet, as a trio of Eagles hope to move on to the State Championship meet and the boys and girls teams aim to likely take 3rd places in the Class C races.
