Eagles Warm Up for Spring Season with 3 Firsts and Bevy of High Places at Somers Tusker Twilight Meet

Dobbs Ferry participated in its first non-dual meet of the outdoor track season when they traveled to Somers on Wednesday, March 30, for the Tusker Twilight meet. On a chilly and windy afternoon, an almost full squad of Eagles took a trio of 1st places in a meet that offers competitions at four levels (varsity, JV, sophomore, freshmen).

Running without an ill Brendan Wortner, Dobbs got rolling in its first event, the 100m.  The top time on the boys side for the Eagles was turned in by Rodrigo Miranda, who took 11th with a 12.4. Jason Roller took 16th in the JV race with a 15.5, and Yusuf Kapadia got 2nd place in the Freshmen race with a 13.1. On the girls side, Megan Moynihan and Sara Saunds finished 7th and 8th in the Varsity race with 14.6 and 14.7 times. Talia Clarick finished 10th in 15.7 and Ciara Lopez finished 18th in 17.8 in the Sophomore event. Sadie Biale and Rachel Birnbaum went 9th and 10th in the Freshmen race with times of 15.2.

The mile run was up next, and Sarah King got the the Eagles' first 1st in the Varsity race with a meet-best time of 5:39, while Shanna Yue was 4th in 6:10 and Karen Maehara 8th in 6:59. The other girls mile race was called a Freshman race but we'll say it was the JV race, and Rebecca Wiersma finished 13th in 6:43, Mary Constant was 16th in 7:01, and Dylan Clay-Devlin 17th in 7:02. On the boys side, George Epstein turned in a 4:49 in the Varsity race for 3rd, Connor Culhane was 5th in 5:04, and Bryan Martin was 11th in 5:18 in a strong showing for the guys. Liam Geron ran a 6:31 for 5th in the JV mile, and Thomas Newman was 11th in 6:23 in the Freshmen race.

The 400m was the next race, and the Eagles notched another 1st as Yusuf Kapadia took the Freshmen race in 1:01.2. On the girls side, Fabiana Monteleone was the lone Eagle, running to a 7th in 1:12.8 in the Freshmen race.

The final event for the relay-shirking Eagles was the 800m. Sarah King got the team another 1st with a 2:36 in the Varsity race. Shanna Yue was 4th in 2:47 and Joanne Mumbey was 5th in 2:52. Rebecca Wiersma and Mary Constant took 8th in the Sophomore race in 3:16. Dylan Clay-Devlin was 7th in 3:06 in the Freshman race. The guys were a little more mysterious as they were almost all identified as ??? ??? and the results appear a bit off. A little investigative work reveals Connor Culhane to be the first shady character who finished 7th in the 800m Varsity race in 2:16, followed by George Epstein in 9th in 2:18, with Bryan Martin 12th in 2:22, and Liam Geron may have been 16th, though the 2:33 time does not quite fit.. Thomas Newman is likely the ??? ??? in the Freshmen race in 10th in 2:58.

More good stuff to come.
