Eagles Race at Irvington Heading into Long Break

Dobbs Takes on Irvington and Woodlands Before April Break

The Eagles traveled to Irvington on Tuesday April 3 for their last meet for 20 days going into the April break, and though the heavy-track and minimal-field Dobbs team ended up third in both the boys and girls contests to strong Irvington and Woodlands squads, the results showed promise and featured an impressive double victory over Irvington in the 4x100m relays near the end of the day.

The Eagles swept the 1st places in their usual events -- the 1500\1600m, 3000m\3200m, and 4x800m relays - and also picked up a 7th first-place finish as Connor Culhane ran down an over-optimistic Woodlands runner in the 800m and recorded likely his best time during a dual meet and only a second off his PR. Though the Eagles did not participate in many of the field events and were at a big disadvantage there against the other two teams in the scoring, the guys' Adam Weiss got a 2nd in the discus and a 3rd in the shot put.

Results posted in Lohud below provide part of the results, but only the 1st place times. In addition to Culhane's win, Brendan Wortner took the 1600m in a time of 4:41.4, Grant Sheely won the 3200m in 11:26.8, and the 4x800m team of Culhane, Bryan Martin, Sheely, and Wortner came home in 9:04.2. Other point places besides Weiss's 2nd and 3rd included Yusuf Kapadia's 2nd in the 400m in around 56, and the 4x100m team's 2nd and 4x400m team's 3rd. The final 2 points came from a pair of 4ths, likely Culhane's in the 1600m and Tommy Newman's in the 3200m following an arm-skimming tumble in the 400m hurdles. Ben Hord and the sprint guys were close but seemed to have finished outside the top 4 scoring places.

The 1sts on the girls side came from Sarah King in the 1500m in a time of 5:24.5, Annabelle Sheely in the 3000m in a time of 12:46.8, and the 4x800m team of Sasha Clarick, Shanna Yue, Karen Maehara and King. The girls got more points from a variety of 2nd-3rd-4th places that included 2nds for King in the 400m hurdles, Sasha Clarick in the 800m with a time of around 2:49, Shanna Yue in the 1500m in a time around 5:30, and the 4x100m and 4x400m squads. 3rds came from Sarah Koenigsberg in the 200m, Riley McKeown in the 400m, Talia Clarick in the 400m hurdles, and Rebecca Wiersma in the 3000m. Two of the three 4ths were picked up by Mary Constant in the 400m hurdles and Dylan Clay-Devlin in the 800m.

Next meet is Monday, April 23rd, at the squarish and leafy Mamaroneck track against a team that includes States champ and 3rd place Nationals finisher Anima Banks.
