8th Grader Dominates League Champs

Posted Wednesday, May 17, 2006 by John-paul Kaminski
Little Lauren Hanley isn't so little anymore after winning all 4 events she ran, leading her team to its first league championship in recent years. Her events included the 1500 (5:17) the 800 the 4x800 relay and the 4x400 relay. This is pretty impressive for an athlete. But let's not forget that Hanley is just an 8th grader. This young girl has a very bright future ahead of her.

From a coaching standpoint, Hanley and Nunez (previous athlete of the week) have taken all the right steps to prepare themselves to race at the top of their section. In the morning you can find them scouting their opponents' times, hydrating and eating all the necessary things that long distance runners eat and drink. In running practices they always push each other to be the best. These two girls will be vying for a shot to run in the NY State Cross Country Championships this fall. With this type of dedication I don't think its going to be much of an issue.
Great job girls.
