One Career ends while another begins at the "C" Champs

Anthony Goodwin capped off a great track career at Dobbs Ferry with impressive throws in the Shot put and Discus. Anthony made it easily into the finals of both events. Once in the finals, Anthony was able to place a close second in both of the strong man events. Anthony will be leaving us this year to attend Dean College in Mass.
While one career is ending there is a new career beginning by a star freshman. Phoebe Maddox came to us in the spring after a great soccer season to help her stay in shape for the next year's soccer season. She soon impressed coaches, teammates, and yesterday herself. As a coach I new she was an athlete and competitor but was not expecting much out of a middle distance freshman runner. After wining many league honors her confidence in her abilities grew. When asked to run at the class C champs. She was hesitant at first. Yesterday Phoebe was the first athlete for Dobbs Ferry to run. Expecting run a 61 and change we were blown away by her time of 60.3 that had placed her just out of the medals with 4th place. Just when we thought her day was over and she was packing up her things to go home. Her Mom had the great idea that she tries the 200m. (Shes never run this event EVER). Giving a terrible seed time landed her in the slow heat of the semi final race. Coach K was thinking this was a really bad idea until she won her heat with a fast enough time to qualifier her for the Finals. Once in Finals Phoebe again rose to the challenge and placed an amazing 3rd. My cross country runners know that it takes a lot to impress coach K. Well I must tip my hat to Phoebe for doing such a great job this season. I think that the rest of the team joins me in saying that we really hope she comes back for a second season. I would also like to thank Phoebe's mom for rooting her daughter on and encouraging her to not settle for mediocrity. Great Job to all the athletes that competed yesterday.
